“Whoa, it feels like I’m in an Etsy store!”

We’ve been getting that a lot lately and it’s no wonder, since about three-quarters of our team of designers can also be found on Etsy! There don’t seem to be many who haven’t heard of Etsy these days. Well, not if you enjoy finding unique handmade items that you won’t see everywhere and happily, there seem to be a growing number of people in that camp.

Etsy’s where I got my craft business started and also where I met and joined the Full-Time Etsy Crafters Team, which consists of upwards of 40 designers who make a living making and selling their handmade items. So, I was giddy all over and full of thanks to see a mention of both the Full-Time Etsy Crafters Team and of Modern Mouse in Etsy’s blog post, Etsy Finds: The A-Team, last week!

Even if biology was never one of your strong suits in school, that won’t stop you from lovin’ all of the science-inspired designs of emily p-s jewelry anyway! Our neighbor over in Berkeley, California, Emily Percival-Snyder is a Maine College of Art grad and has been making jewelry ever since she was a wee child.

With a love for “watch[ing] things grow, in a petri dish, in a flower pot, where ever”, Emily’s developed a line of jewelry based around that interest. Her pieces fall into cool sounding buckets like Cell Formation, Leaf Architecture, Spores / Petri Dish and Lichen. emily p-s jewelry is so intriguingly lovely you’ve gotta come see it to believe it! ARCHICRAFT at Modern Mouse!

Man, it was tough picking the ARCHICRAFT product to feature in this post. Do we go with the awesome, shiny laser-cut acrylic doilies? The carefully crocheted mobius cowls with built-in twist?! Or what about the customizable laser-cut card where you can pop out the dots to create your own message?! But augh! Then we wouldn’t get to highlight the product that makes us laugh the most: the hand-embroidered mustache bandana! Ah ha ha ha haaaa…

Emeryville’s Cindy Liu is the designer and fabricator behind ARCHICRAFT, and she puts her architecture schooling to use in her cleverly designed crafts to bring to us a variety of fun products like the ones we’ve mentioned. It’s no wonder ARCHICRAFT won an Editor’s Choice Award at Maker Faire this year! Congrats and thanks and welcome, ARCHICRAFT!

Tinysaurs at Modern Mouse!

Uh huh that’s right…TINYSAURS!!! As in, miniature dinosaur models. That you assemble yourself. How fun is that?!? And good for your brain too. We got mad love for Brooklyn metal artist Kelly Farrell for sending some Tinysaurs our way.

Trained in jewelry and metalsmithing, Kelly now spends her days making tiny creatures laser cut from oak tag paper. And we’re so glad she does! As if that weren’t good enough, she’s a geek too! And we mean that in the most respectful of ways, because we kinda dig geeks. You can find Kelly teaching programming classes at NYC Resistor and doing some freelance PHP development. Wow! Welcome to Modern Mouse, Tinysaurs, and thanks!

Periphery Designs at Modern Mouse!

The problem with finding all these fabulous designers is that, well, how are we gonna stop ourselves from taking all their amazing creations home with us?! As soon as we saw this pair of poppies earrings from Alameda’s own Periphery Designs, we were hooked. Then there’s the Water Lily Necklace, the All You Need Necklace, the Tiny Sparrow Stud Earrings…{swoon!}

Angela is the self-taught artist behind Periphery Designs and, on top of jewelry-making, also juggles grad school and nursing. How she manages to do all that and still produce such loveliness is a mystery, but there’s one thing we know for sure: we’re lucky little mice to have Periphery Designs at Modern Mouse! Thanks a billion, and welcome!

Tiny Sparks Design at Modern Mouse!

Tiny Sparks Design made a huge hit with the crowds when it debuted at the Bazaar Bizarre craft fair at Maker Faire this past May. We loved their stuff so much that we came home with one of our very own pieces when we saw them again at Renegade Craft Fair! Tiny Sparks Design is the work of furniture maker, Academy of Art University instructor and super nice guy Brad Boggie of San Francisco. We’re so pleased to be able to offer some of his screen printed woodwork in our shop! Mu-Yin Jewelry at Modern Mouse!

I feel like we should stop with the exclamations in all the post titles, but it’s just too exciting not to exclaim! So without further ado…

We’re beaming with pleasure to welcome Mu-Yin Jewelry to Modern Mouse! Self-taught jewelry artist Mu-Yin Mollie Chen spends her days (and many nights, and weekends) in her Charleston, South Carolina studio handcrafting each and every piece you see in her shop. Her pieces are made from the most amazing collection of beautifully colored freshwater pearls and natural gemstones, which she’s amassed by traveling to China every year just to pick and choose them for herself. Now that’s TLC, friends! You’ll love the vibrant colors, often simple yet meticulous construction and delicate balance between wire and pearls/gemstones in Mu-Yin Jewelry’s pieces. Papaver Vert at Modern Mouse!

We felt all warm and fuzzy (get it?) when Papaver Vert, home of beautiful hand felted home accessories, took us up on our invite to join the fun at Modern Mouse! Patty Benson is the talented maker behind Papaver Vert’s collection of good-enough-to-eat felted bowls, coasters, plant cozies and more, and Alameda residents will appreciate that she’s based right here in…you guessed it, Alameda. Yay! We aren’t the only fans of this fabulous brand: Patty/Papaver Vert has gotten loads of press from Daily Candy to Sunset Magazine, and ReadyMade to Real Simple! To name a few. {Eh heh heh, that title cracks me up.} Attention! Attention! Monkeys Always Look is in the hooooouuuse! Allison Cecil is the San Diego-based proprietor behind Monkeys Always Look, and when she’s not walking her three extra-large dogs or 20lb tortoise, she’s creating all sorts of lovelies you’ll find you absolutely need to bring home. We’re so excited to open our doors with Allison’s vintage silverware garden markers (which have been featured on Design*Sponge) and ceramic animals on display, and we hope she’ll send us even more to enliven our space!
