The Angelina Fong Designs Story
I started my business in April of 2009 and it actually came about more by accident than out of careful planning. I’d been making handmade items for myself and as gifts to friends and family for years. People always told me “you could totally sell this!” but I always thought they were just being nice. To my surprise, around March of last year, I actually started to receive requests to buy my handmade items (mostly from coworkers and friends) and it just took off from there.

In my other life…
My past work experience is mainly in media. I’ve worked in everything from newspaper to movies to radio. I currently work full time in digital marketing.

Did you know?
People used to make fun of me in college for knitting and crocheting, calling me a “grandma”. Then it became trendy. Go figure!

The Melinda Mae Handbags Story
I have loved crafts since I was a little girl and had fun making various projects with my sewing machine. It wasn’t until many years later that I realized that I could make some fun handbags for myself that would help compliment my personality and show my unique style. So I started to make handbags that people could display their one of a kind personalities by using fabrics with vibrant colors and patterns. My handbags are also very functional and versatile in which I made specifically for “playful days and soulful nights”.

The Bella Beads Originals Story
I started making jewelry, as a hobby, in 2003. My sister gave me some vintage beads and a beading magazine. That peaked my interest and I took some beading classes. The next thing I knew, friends were asking me to make jewelry for them. And, as they say, the rest is history.

I love the creative process of finding a beautiful strand of beads or a great pendant and creating a piece of jewelry that bring’s a smile and a little bit of happiness into someone’s life. And, I have a thing for making one-of-a-kind pieces. I think it makes people feel special to know they’re the only ones with that particular necklace, bracelet or earrings. It makes their smile even bigger!

In my other life…
My current job is my jewelry business!

I have a wonderful, lovable yellow lab named Schooner. She’s my furbaby and a momma’s girl!

My husband calls me “love of my life” otherwise, no nickname!

Even if biology was never one of your strong suits in school, that won’t stop you from lovin’ all of the science-inspired designs of emily p-s jewelry anyway! Our neighbor over in Berkeley, California, Emily Percival-Snyder is a Maine College of Art grad and has been making jewelry ever since she was a wee child.

With a love for “watch[ing] things grow, in a petri dish, in a flower pot, where ever”, Emily’s developed a line of jewelry based around that interest. Her pieces fall into cool sounding buckets like Cell Formation, Leaf Architecture, Spores / Petri Dish and Lichen. emily p-s jewelry is so intriguingly lovely you’ve gotta come see it to believe it! ARCHICRAFT at Modern Mouse!

Man, it was tough picking the ARCHICRAFT product to feature in this post. Do we go with the awesome, shiny laser-cut acrylic doilies? The carefully crocheted mobius cowls with built-in twist?! Or what about the customizable laser-cut card where you can pop out the dots to create your own message?! But augh! Then we wouldn’t get to highlight the product that makes us laugh the most: the hand-embroidered mustache bandana! Ah ha ha ha haaaa…

Emeryville’s Cindy Liu is the designer and fabricator behind ARCHICRAFT, and she puts her architecture schooling to use in her cleverly designed crafts to bring to us a variety of fun products like the ones we’ve mentioned. It’s no wonder ARCHICRAFT won an Editor’s Choice Award at Maker Faire this year! Congrats and thanks and welcome, ARCHICRAFT!

Publique Living at Modern Mouse!

We spotted one of these irresistible pop-up placemats made of recycled paper on Etsy’s front page, and we had to see who the maker was. We were full of delight to find Publique Living to be a San Francisco-based company, and even more pleased when designer Lian Ng accepted our invitation to join Modern Mouse!

Lian is a self-proclaimed aficionado of mid-20th century furniture and modern minimalist architecture, an interest that we think comes across quite nicely in his amazing work. If creating his line of die-cut and laser-cut designs wasn’t enough, Lian also teaches graphic design and typography at The Academy of Art University in SF! We look forward to presenting Lian’s line of Publique Living products to you, and welcome Publique Living to the family. Thanks so much!

Crickets Creations at Modern Mouse!

Feeling that chill in the air yet? Crickets Creations can take care of that. Just wrap one of Celeste’s (aka “Crickets”) handknit scarves around your neck and you’ll be snuuuuug as a bug in a rug. Celeste’s line of handmade fiber art is brought to us from Kanab, Utah. Where’s that, you ask? We looked it up and can now tell you that it’s seven miles north of the Arizona border AND, according to the City of Kanab website is often called “Little Hollywood” because of its film-making history over the years. Who knew?!

Back to these beautifully crafted, snuggly scarves. We think you’ll appreciate that each piece of made from soft, cruelty free, designer, vintage or novelty yarns (vegan) with no potentially allergenic or irritating wool/animal fibers. The Vegetarian Times and Better Homes & Gardens did — they both pictured one of Crickets’ scarves in their publications! We’re happy to welcome Crickets Creations to Modern Mouse. Thanks Celeste!

Okay, truly I’ve been trying to come up with a post that doesn’t use so much punctuation…but I just can’t!!! CONGRATULATIONS to Allison of Monkeys Always Look for an amazing accomplishment of shipping over 3700 garden markers to Anthropologie!

We saw the news on her Facebook page and just had to celebrate along with her. Look at that smile on her face! Happiness well-deserved. And we’re patting ourselves on the back for scoring a few of her garden markers for the Modern Mouse shop too. HOORAY!!!
